Chemical Peel – VI Peel
A VI Peel is a brand of medical-grade, medium-depth chemical peels formulated by the Vitality Institute. Unlike traditional peels that can be harsh, VI Peels are known for being relatively gentle and effective, with less downtime. They are safe for all skin types and can be used on the face and body.
How does it work?
VI Peel penetrates the epidermis and reaches into the papillary dermis to exfoliate the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin.
The key to its efficacy is a synergistic blend of ingredients, which includes:
- Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA): Exfoliates the skin and boosts collagen production.
- Retinoic Acid: Stimulates cell turnover.
- Salicylic Acid: Exfoliates the pores and reduces inflammation.
- Phenol: Provides anesthetic and antiseptic properties.
- Vitamin C: Provides antioxidant and brightening effects.
- Numbing ingredients: Reduce the burning or stinging sensation during the treatment.
Benefits:
A VI Peel can address a variety of skin concerns:
- Treats signs of aging: Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Improves skin tone and texture: Addresses uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and rough texture.
- Reduces acne and scarring: Clears acne and minimizes the look of post-acne marks.
- Minimizes pores and controls oil: Refines the look of enlarged pores.
- Boosts collagen: Promotes a firmer and more youthful complexion.
The procedure and aftercare:
The entire in-office treatment takes around 30 minutes, with the active peeling process typically lasting 4 to 6 days.
- During the peel, an aesthetician applies the VI Peel solution, which can cause a tingling or warm sensation.
- After the peel: A post-peel kit is provided to aid in recovery. It’s crucial to follow aftercare instructions, such as avoiding direct sunlight and regularly applying sunscreen.
- Results: Patients often see immediate improvements, with maximum results appearing after the peeling process is complete. Results typically last around three to four months, though maintenance treatments can prolong the effects.
Potential side effects:
While generally safe, potential side effects can occur:
- Mild redness and swelling: Common and expected immediately after treatment.
- Peeling: The visible peeling process can last several days.
Chemical peel can be done on the face, neck, hands, and body. They can be used to:
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve the appearance of mild scars
- Treat certain types of acne
- Reduce age spots, freckles, and improve melasma
- Improve overall tone and texture
