Cosmetic Injectables–Sculptra Aesthetic
Sculptra® Aesthetic (injectable poly-L-lactic acid) is a synthetic product requiring no skin test. It is bio-compatible (does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body) and has been widely used in medicine for decades.
It is a unique anti-aging treatment that works gradually to give subtle yet noticeable results. It corrects contour and volume deficiencies, facial wrinkles and folds by targeting the underlying causes of facial aging. It is replacing collagen, an essential component of youthful, smooth appearing skin.
Some of the most beneficial areas to treat are the cheek hollows, temples, jaw line, chin, chest, and pre-auricular area. Collagen stimulation in these areas provides a tightening effect which helps restore a person’s youthful appearance. Sagging skin around the mouth and jaw line can be tightened and accordion-like lines in the cheeks diminished.
Completed as a series of treatments, Sculptra injections to the chest (decollete area) promote new collagen growth, strengthening and thickening the soft tissue and skin of the chest area.
You may be a candidate for these treatments if you wish improve the appearance of:
- Hollowness and/or loss of volume due to aging, weight loss, etc.
- Hollow cheeks, temples, jaw line, chin, and pre-auricular area
- Sagging skin around the mouth and jaw line
- Butt enhancement
What can I expect?
Your skin will be cleansed prior to procedure, topical anesthetic applied and local anesthetic will be added to the Sculptra to minimize discomfort. Immediately after each treatment session you may experience swelling, which can give you a preview of how you may look once your volume deficiency and wrinkles have been corrected. The swelling subsides within a few days and the wrinkles will temporarily reappear as the gradual process of collagen replacement continues. Bruising is always a risk with any injection, but makeup may be applied and most bruises resolve within a week. To decrease the risk of bruising, blood thinners such as aspirin and ibuprofen should be avoided for a week prior to your treatment. After the treatment, you will need to massage the treated area for 5 minutes 5 times a day for 5 days for optimal results.
How long does it last?
The effects are long-lasting and have been shown in clinical studies to last up to 2 years after the first treatment in most patients. You may begin to see progressive results within the first few weeks after each treatment session. This can give you a refined, more youthful-looking appearance. On average, 3 treatment sessions over a few months are required. The number of injection sessions and the number of injections per session vary from person to person.
